Complete Book of Cat Breeding
Friday, November 21st, 2008Cats have an association with humans that stretches back thousands of years. Currently, they are the second most kept pet, trailing only behind dogs in popularity. Caring for cats is still easy to do, even if you are away from your home or apartment for long periods of time during the day.
Unlike other pets, cats do not need much time, they only need to be given food and a little attention, for example dogs need to be walked on a regular basis and this can be very exhausting and time consuming. Even the smallest apartment makes a good dwelling for the creatures, as they are prone to adapting well. Their ideal pet status is cemented by the fact that they show affection easily, adore play, and are very loyal.
Most domestic cats that people own are not pedigree, meaning that they are a mix of different breeds. A small 3 percent of pet cats are purebred, mostly because there are no advantages or disadvantages of owning a purebred, and they can be quite expensive. Still, there are more than 100 distinct purebred cats, as determined by global purebred groups.
The differences in breeds consist of the shape of the body, the size, length of coat, color of coat, color of eyes, personality and more. The short hairs and the long hairs comprise the major categories that cats are grouped in. Short hairs are very abundant, however, whereas the long haired ones are not as abundant.
If you purchase any long haired cats, you should be aware of the daily grooming they require, as well as the hairballs they run a higher chance of having. If you have a long hair that has fleas or gets cut, you will definitely have a harder time taking care of those problems than you would on a short hair.
